MARCOS CABOTÁ

Marcos Cabotá, Member of the Film Academy, was born in Palma de Mallorca on January 31, 1981. He studied at Bellver International College and then graduated from the European University of Madrid in 2005. Subsequently, he graduated from the New York Film Academy (Universal Studios, Los Angeles).

 

Upon returning from Los Angeles, he began working on the script of his first feature film, "Amigos...", which finally was shot in 2010 with the actors Ernesto Alterio, Diego Martin, Alberto Lozano, Goya Toledo and Manuela Velasco. "Amigos..." was released in 2011 and won the Audience Award at the Malaga Film Festival.

 

In 2013 he filmed and premiered the short film "24 Hours with Lucia", starring Alberto Lozano and Alexandra Palomo. The short film had national and international recognition with more than 80 awards and more than 100 participations in festivals around the world. Among other awards, he received the prestigious Meliés d'Argent and the Nocturna Award for the Best Short Film of 2014.

At the same time, he produced the short film "Foley Artist", directed by Toni Bestard, who also obtained great success in critics and in Festivals around the world. The short film was Finalist at the 2015 Goya Awards.

 

That same year, he returned to join forces with film director Toni Bestard to write the screenplay for the documentary "I Am Your Father," a film that tells the story of David Prowse, the actor who was behind the mask of Darth Vader in the original trilogy of Star Wars. Directed by Marcos Cabotá and Toni Bestard, the film was well received by the critics and it obtained a Nomination to the Goya Awards for Best Documentary Film, being premiered at the Sitges International Film Festival.

In 2014 he co-produced the film "El Destierro", directed by Arturo Ruíz. The film is shot between the Sierra de Madrid and the Sierra de Mallorca. It tells the story of two exiled soldiers in oblivion, that although very different between them, both find common interests: A rebel woman captured. The film receives numerous awards in Europe, the United States and Asia.

In 2014 he is invited by Michael Jackson´s Estate to advise in the production of the posthumous record of the singer, Xcape, published that same year.

 

At the beginning of 2017 he premiered "Cien Años Después", a film that celebrates one hundred years of life of the soccer team Real Mallorca. At the end of 2017 he presents "Noctem", a horror film starring Adrián Lastra, Esteban Piñero, Álex González, Diego Ingold, Carla Nieto and Miriam Hernández. The film wins the Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sant Cugat Film Festival.

 

In 2018 he premiered "La Jaula" at the Festival Festibérico in Holland, as well as the short film "Glitch", which makes him winner of a dozen prizes throughout the year.

 

His short documentary Kyoko (co-written and co-directed with Joan Bover) wins the Malaga Film Festival and makes him win a new Nomination at the Goya Awards. He is currently in the production of his new feature film, "Sonic Fantasy".
